 Namib Naukluft Park, Dune 45 & Hiddenvlei, Swakopmund, Windhoek, Etosha National Park, Local Bushman Tribe in Namibia, Okavango Delta Panhandle mokorro excursion and village walk, early morning game drive and afternoon sunset cruise in Chobe National Park in Botswana, ending the tour in Livingstone, Zambia. ITINERARY:

DAY 01:

We depart towards the Namib Naukluft Park, travelling over the Khomas Hochland and down the steep gradients of the Gamsberg Pass, sometimes called as “Namibia’s Garden Route”. We should begin to see the first of our game species like springbok, ostrich and Oryx on the way to our campsite on the outskirts of the Namib Desert.

DAY 02:

Pre dawn departure, we traveling 70km towards Sossusvlei gates. A climb up the sand dunes will give a superb view up and down of the Tsaucab River Canyon which forms the valley between the famous sand dunes. Guides prepare breakfast at the bottom of the dune. After breakfast we take a 2 hour walk through to the beautiful Hiddenvlei in the Sossusvlei Area. We return to Sesriem, enjoy lunch and a cool down in the swimming pool. Afternoon we explore the Sesriem canyon on foot, returning back to our campsite.

DAY 03:

Some scientists regard the Namib Desert as the oldest in the world. We will travel through this desert stopping at the smallest town in Namibia, Solitaire and via the Kuiseb Canyon, home to two Germans and their dog for two years during World War 2. We include a visit to the Walvis Bay lagoon, famous for its huge numbers of flamingos. It’s a 5 hour very scenic drive to the coast.

DAY 04:

A free day to explore Swakopmund or take part in various optional activities such as sand boarding, quid biking, desert flights, skydiving, dolphin cruise ect.

DAY 05:

After breakfast we head back towards Windhoek, where we overnight one night, before continuing our safari north the next morning. Dinner can be enjoyed at the famous Joe’s Beerhouse.

DAY 06:

We depart 09h00 and start our journey north to our first campsite in Etosha National Park at either Okaukuejo or Halali, where both camps have a floodlit waterhole which allows for 24-hour game viewing. Elephants and black rhinoceros are seen daily during the dry winter months and numerous game.

DAY 07:

We game drive slowly through the park, gazing in awe at the vast expanse of the Etosha Pan, itself shimmering in the midday heat. Ostrich appear like moving black dots as they wander around miles out in the salt pan. The Namutoni area of Etosha is renowned for its vast herds of plain game in the northern parts and other species found here include lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, kudu and the smallest antelope in Namibia, the Damara Dik Dik.

DAY 08:

We pack-up camp and have a short game drive towards the exit gate of the Park. Our next campsite in the bush nearby the village of Tsintsabis, which is a community based and sustainable tourism project with a strong focus on the culture of the Bushman (San) people, the fist inhabitants of Southern Africa. The afternoon we will conduct a bushwalk to get a deeper understanding of the relationship that the Bushman people used to have (and still have sometimes) with nature. You will learn about edible, poisonous and medicinal plants, see how they used to hunt animals, set up traps and made fire. The bushwalk is ideal for learning about the traditional way of life of the Bushmen.

DAY 09:

Today we head more north towards the Kavango River, stopping in the dusty town of Rundu to stock up with fresh supplies. Our next camp is situated on the Kavango River; this is the panhandle of the Okavango Delta on the Namibian side. The afternoon you can relax, take a dip in the world’s only crocodile swimming cage or play some Frisbee golf. Enjoy a sundowner watching the hippos swimming in the river.

DAY 10:

After breakfast you will have a whole day off exploring the Okavango Delta Panhandle on a Mokoro/Watu. The excursion takes place on the river and into the Bwabwata National Park on a mokoro which can seat two people. The Head Mokoro Poler will give you a detailed speech on safety and what to expect on your trip. You will be poled through the tranquil channels on the river. You will undertake a return game drive back to camp. Plenty of game, bird life as well a cultural experience to experience on this day.

DAY 11:

After breakfast we continue through the Caprivi Strip, stopping in the town of Katima Mulilo. We will cross the border over to Botswana heading to the town of Kasane which is the “gate way” to the famous Chobe National Park. Our camp is on the river bed of the Chobe River.

DAY 12:

Pre dawn wake up, with a quick coffee, before jumping on an open game drive vehicle which will take you into the Chobe National Park for a 2hour game drive, spotting big herds of elephants, lions, antelopes and lost more, before heading back to camp for brunch prepared by your guide. The rest of the day you can relax around the pool, before undertaking a 2hour sunset cruise on the Chobe River.

DAY 13:

After a relaxing start and breakfast we will pack up and have short drive towards the ferry which will take you over to Zambia where a private transfer will drop you off at your accommodation in the capitol adventure town of Zambia, Livingstone. (If you have not made your own arrangements for accommodation in Livingstone, Mabaruli will be able to book either tented or room accommodation at the Zambezi Waterfont. SAFPAR the Optional Activity Booking Agent is also situated at the Waterfont.)
