Safari Overview

This tour is for the adventure seeker – a combination of camping and accommodation, while cycling in the vast and beautiful wilderness of Namibia, with the comfort and security of having a private Cycling Guide with you on the ground with supported vehicle, to make the most of your trip. Enjoy nutrition and hydration during the rides, your guide will support you with mechanical assistance, while you cycle on your own pace.

Highlights

Cycling past the highest sand dunes on earth at Sossusvlei. Climb Dune 45 and enjoy the unique scenery at Dead vlei. Explore Spitzkoppe known as the Matterhorn of Africa. As you want to feel safe during this Covid era, by limiting your interaction with people you do not know. Our tour price individual & based on minimum of 2 people travelling together on their own Private Tour.  No other clients are booked on your tour dates you book with us.

If you are more than 2 that want to travel with "Just Your Own Group", please do let us know and we work out a discounted rate for 3 & more travelling together.

Transport

  • Transport for 2 - 3 clients will be in 4x4 Toyota Cruiser with bikes on roof rack or bike trailer.
  • 4 and more clients, transport will be in a custom build Safari Truck, with a bike trailer.
 

The dunes of the Namib

Day 1 - Windhoek

Arriving in Windhoek, it’s time to relax after your flight and get familiar with your bike. Bike set-up will be done today and if needed adjust seats & clip-in pedals. If time we can undertake a short cycle route at nearby farm. Evening dinner can be enjoyed at Joe’s Beerhouse, the best-known restaurant in Namibia with Namibian cuisine with a German twist, best steal in town & coldest beer.

Spitzkoppe with bike

Day 2 - Windhoek to Spitzkoppe

Leaving Windhoek, we have a 3.5-hour transfer to the imposing granite hills of Spitzkoppe. Afternoon sunset bike ride/hike in the Spitzkoppe are to some sights and rock pools. We enjoy a lovely evening dinner under the clear African skies.

Spitzkoppe

Day 3 - Spitzkoppe

We enjoy an early morning bike and hike explore the granite rock formation and have opportunity to visit some ancient bushman rock art. Lunch time relax at the campsite and afternoon some cycling in the area.

Damaraland Overview

Day 4 - Spitzkoppe to Damaraland

After breakfast we pack up and cycle from our campsite towards exit gates of the Spitzkoppe, continuing gravel road, till we stop and will be transferred in our vehicle the rest of the way. We will pass Himba & Herero villages, and have a lunch stop next to the road. Last 20 km we cycle to our camp on the Haub riverbed at Madisa – this area is known for visitation from the desert elephant. We enjoy a cool down in the swimming pool with an ice-cold beer.

Palmwag by bike

Day 5 - Palmwag

We cycle from our campsite West, towards Palmwag, enjoying a picnic lunch along the way. Arriving at our accommodation for the evening at Palmwag Oasis Lodge, where we can relax & cool down at the swimming pool. Afternoon optional game drive to seek the Desert Elephants in the area.

Shade in the Sesfontein Area

Day 6 - Palmwag to Sesfontein Hot springs

After an enjoyable breakfast we cycle from the lodge into the Palmwag concession, where we have the opportunity to see many different plain game & also the rate desert Elephant and or the Black Rhino. Stopping for lunch along the way, we proceed to arrive late afternoon at the amazing hot springs near our overnight campsite. We enjoy a nice swim in this natural warmquelle pools

Purros

Day 7 - Sesfontein to Puros

Cycle from Sesfontein camp past local villages in the direction of Puros.

Puros is on the Huariseb riverbed where Desert Elephants can be found between the tall palm trees and the lush vegetation. After a steep pass follows a beautiful downhill on the bike. Afternoon we take a car ride looking for elephants and take short walk up to a viewpoint

Kaokoveld Viewpoint

Day 8 - Puros to Kaokoland Wild camp

Today we head North direction, after 1-hour drive with the vehicles we reach the magnificent Sculpturen Valley. From here we go by our bikes along this awesome scenery. We enjoy lunch in the shadow of a big rock on the way. The afternoon we reach our camp near big granite boulders and amazing views. We enjoy watching the sun go down and the view of millions of stars starting to gather above us.

Kaoko Camp

Day 9 - Kaokoland Wild camp to Opuwo

This morning we start on our bikes, for a 2-hour cycle, till we reach a waterhole at the end of he Sculpturen Valley, here we load our bikes on the vehicles and transfer via Orupembe and some Himba villages, where we reach Opuwo after 2 hours. Tonight, we have the luxury of sleeping in beds, and can enjoy a cold one in the bar next t the pool. Dinner can be enjoyed at the lodge restaurant.

Epupa Falls

Day 10 - Opuwo to Epupa Falls

After enjoying breakfast at the restaurant, we take on our bikes, cycling past local villages to the most spectacular attraction of the Kaokoland, the Epupa Falls, meaning “falling Water” in Herero. After +/- 30km cycling, we transfer with the vehicles rest of the way passing Big Baobab trees to our campsite on the southern bank of the Kunene River, where we cool off in the swimming pool with a river view.

Kunene Cycling

Day 11 - Epupa Falls to Kunene River

This morning we cycle from camp, along the Kunene River, heading west, enjoying lunch next to the river under the canopy shades of indigenous trees, overlooking the spectacular Kunene River. After enjoying lunch, we load the bikes on the vehicles and transfer rest of the way to our next camp, again next to the Kunene River, which forms the north-western border between Angola and Namibia. This remote lodge is situated on the bank of this mighty river, overlooking Angola, here where the winding river washes down to the sea. We enjoy a relaxing drink and feast on delicious dinner on the restaurant’s deck which extend over the river.

Elephants and tourist cars

Day 12 - Kunene to Etosha National Park

After a scrumptious breakfast we enjoy a short cycle via the local villages next to the river. We will transfer with vehicles the rest of the way, via Ruacana Falls, which are a major underground hydroelectric plant – which accommodate three 80-megawatt turbine generators. We will arrive at the Western gates of Etosha national park, mid-afternoon and head to Olifantsrus Camp, newest camp in the park and the first accommodation option in the park that offers camping experience inly, allowing you to feel that little bit closer to the incredible African bush around you. There are numerous waterholes around the camp, which means its excellent for game viewing.

Lion at Waterhole

Day 13 - Etosha National Park

Etosha is one of the most special game parks in Southern Africa and is over 22000 square km in size. Today is dedicated to going on safari from waterhole to waterhole, arriving at our next camp in the park, Okaukuejo. Here we enjoy a late lunch and relax at the swimming pool

during the heat of the day when the wildlife hides from the hot Namibian sun. We undertake late afternoon a short game drive, while the evening at camp to sit by the watering hole which is flood lit at night and enjoy the living theatre which unfolds as animals come down to the water to drink.

Otjiwa

Day 14 - Etosha National Park to Otjiwa

We leave Etosha national Park behind and transfer approximately 120km to Otjiwa, the oldest safari lodge in Namibia. After lunch we go on an afternoon ride along on the jeep tracks and hopefully see some of the local wildlife.

Day 15 - Otjiwa to Windhoek

After breakfast we cycle 3 hours on jeep track roads looking for game and white rhinos. We enjoy lunch at Otjiwa and then transit back to Windhoek, where this magnificent cycling tour comes to end.

* SH - Standard Hotels, Lodges or Guest Houses, usually with twin or single rooms and en-suite facilities. These are generally standard, no-frills hotels perfectly accepted to most, do not expect too much. These are often small, family run establishments.

* CH - Comfortable Hotels, Lodges or Guest Houses with twin or single rooms and en suite facilities. Generally good levels of service and often added amenities such as restaurant, bar, swimming pool and garden.

Namibia have good tourism infrastructure and generally good service standards. Throughout this trip we stay in comfortable lodges which are simple, comfortable, and clean.

All safaris are sold as a private fully inclusive package and include the following:

  • Service of a Trained Safari Guided Driver
  • Transport, accommodation, and all National Park Entrance Fees
  • Meals stated as on above itinerary
  • Meals can be either purchased picnic style lunch or at accommodation / Meals that are not included are on client’s own expense, budget +/- N$ 300.00 per person for dinner at parks restaurants and +/- N$ 150.00 per person for lunches.
  • Activities included as set out in above itinerary
  • Camping Options: All camping equipment for camping nights includes 2-man dome tent, which thick sleeping mattress with sleeping bag, pillow, tables, and chairs. Meals on camping can either be purchased picnic style meals or your guide will prepare at camp.

NOTE that alternative lodges can be used if the above lodges are fully booked.
